This book is kind of an ego stroke for Daymond John. A little of that is to be expected if you’ve seen his speeches. I saw him give a keynote at Scaling New Heights in 2016 and it was motivational and very insightful but boastful. Coming from nothing to everything makes it near impossible not to boast and really he should boast because he’s done a lot. I can’t say I wouldn’t myself at that level of success. I like the books done by the other sharks better.
What is the power of broke? A mindset inside of all of us. It’s the idea that you don’t need money to make money. Its that fear that you’ve gone crazy for risking everything and the one thing that keeps you going when you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If you’ve looked into Daymond’s past, followed him on SharkTank or seen a variety of his shows you probably don’t need to read this book. I don’t feel like there is a lot of really gain from it if you’ve seen Dymond speak at an event or in multiple interviews talking about his success.
